own account in Shanghai, Hongkong and Canton, his

sub-ageatr boing either British or neutrals. He cannot

therefore be said to be consucting business for the firm

with which he was previously con acted.

It is not perhaps generally known that many

houses in Great Britain have hitherto worked through

German firme in China and auspension of the latter's busir

iness forces them to seek new outlets. If they can find

trained men of British nationality on the spot to carry

on for them so much the better for British trade,
